You know the truth, just accept it.

It’s really the only way to be sure.

Launder the hell out of them, about all you can do. That smell is pervasive and is difficult to permanently remove.

Just make sure you wash them ALONE and on the lowest water level setting. That way you can buy some of that washing machine cleanser and get all the residue out. Or just go to a commercial laundromat.

Took me probably 10 washes before the smell was only slightly noticeable.

The only luck I’ve had with removing gear oil from clothing is to use GoJo or similar, working it in to the cloth by hand until it was saturated with it (really layer it on there), and letting it sit over night, then washing it with a decent detergent and adding a grease-cutting agent (I think I used 409?). It still wasn’t perfect, but it got the god-awful smell out.

My dad was a machinist’s mate on a diesel sub back in the 60s. According to my mom there was absolutely no way to get the smell of diesel, oil and sweat out of his uniforms.

Laundry mats sometimes have Industrial washers, there usually big stainless steel machines, they heat the water up hotter then normal and have magic inside them, anyways we have a uniform service at work but I wash my work hoodie every couple months at the local laundromat using these large machines, works great. gets a lot of the grease out.

Are you smelling the sulfur? If so that tends to stick around for a few washings, but you could try white vinegar.

Presoak the stain with the blood of a sacrificial lamb. Let it sit three days - no more, no less. Then, wash them in cold water and tumble dry. Twice.

Maybe try a combination of dish soap and shampoo, and use an old toothbrush to really work it in?

It makes me sick too! I soak them in brake cleaner and try to wash them out. Its the one smell that drives me up the wall in a garage. Well that and when we drained The Baja Pig radiator which we filled with piss during the race to keep the engine cool. But used gear oil was a clear second... seriously though try a solvent. Then wash with some serious laundry soap designed to cut grease...

Yea My wife uses Goop on shirts that I get stuff smeared on when I work on cars and usually that gets it out. same basic stuff as Gojo.
